We have a man coming out! Sorry, for some reason i've always wanted to say that but now we really do. Well i say a man, it's more a friend of the bf, but he's a qualified plumber and seems happy enough to have a chat with us about what todo with our dodgy radiator. Just wanted to update you all as i know how concerned you where ha! Back later x

Enjoying the last of the summer nights, warm weather & ice lollies, that is what i should be doing at the moment. However it seems fate has dealt me a different hand this afternoon when i returned from work to find a large brown water stain on my beloved carpet. A quick inspection of the radiator confirmed my suspicions as the water was still dripping down it from the valve on the side. Great, just what i needed right now!
Thankfully a quick phone call to my bf at work and we managed to locate the shut off valve before too much damage was done. Though i fear for the carpet. Between us we managed to stop the dripping and have protected the carpet from further damage via a selection of Tupperware, cups and old towels. 20 minutes later and my lovely friend Lisa was around with a cuppa and some biscuits. She was kind enough to comfort me whilst i mourned the loss of my carpet (Thank you babe x). Some of you will already know just how many problems we've had with the heating in our new home. It's just been one thing after the other it seems. Though i'm determined not to let it get me down, in fact, i've already been poking around online for a replacement radiator. So far i've narrowed it down to a few, as i found some gorgeous designer radiators here. Though not the yellow one before you ask, that's definitely a bit too bright for my tastes! I've also been looking at some electric radiators from http://www.heatsystems.co.uk/ which i think may be best for us. My bf has wanted to redo the plumbing for a while now. So with an electric radiator we will rip the old pipes out and have the new radiator in place without redoing the pipes. Makes sense to me, and apparently they're more efficient than normal central heating so that's got to be a good thing. Every penny saved counts at the moment. On the other hand, i have always loved those big cast iron ones you see in older houses. So far though i've been unable to find an electric version of them which somewhat puts a dent in things. It's a tough choice! I do love those designer ones,. they'd look amazing on our wall. Best of all, i could finally get rid of that ugly radiator shelf as i don't think it would work being how slim those radiators are. It would look silly sticking out now i think. At least that's what i'll be telling the bf when he gets home shortly ha! Another plus point is that at some point we'd like to install an intelligent home heating system, something like nest. So i guess the electric radiators will better suit that, or can these systems control normal wet radiators too? Hmm, i shall have to look into that. One thing i do remember from days at uni is sitting in the cold room of my student digs and shivering till my roomie brought home an electric one. I was always amazed at just how quick it would heat up and we spent many a night huddled near it with wine and pot noodles lol. Soooo, what do you think? Tear out the told plumbing and install an electric radiator, or go with those old cast iron style? It's a tough one and i have a feeling we couldn't just leave it at one radiator once we start, we'd have to replace them all really? Hey all, just back from a quick shopping trip and wanted to share the big news.... I bought lamp shade! Yes, i know, ground breaking news indeed haha. Thing is, i've been putting this off for months now as i just hadn't found the ONE that i wanted. It's to go in the corner of our living room so is quite visible and whilst i've bought two for this already i haven't been truly happy with either of them.
Today though i saw it, and it's just perfect! It really helps give a warm and cosy feel to the living room, and i've just spent the last hour reading under it's light. So yay me, that's one thing off the to-do list and only another 9,999 to go! I promise to get some pics up soon but i want to make sure the bookshelf behind it is finished too so you get the full effect. Ta ta for now x |
AuthorWell hello there, just wanted to get a little something up about me on my shiny new corner of the web. It's here that i hope to document our trials and tribulations as we go about renovating our new place. Some of you will probably know, but with plans to start a family in the coming years we decided we just need a bigger place. I loved our old one but it's fair to say it's not exactly the best place to raise a family. So fast forward 7 months and here we are. Almost a full house to renovate on a small budget, it's going to be tricky but i'm always up for a challenge! Archives |
